Wow - that is a tough one to explain. Put your darning foot on, put your feed dogs down, put a fabric sandwich in there and do ONE stitch and pull the bottom thread up through the top. Take a few stitches and have the needle down and cut those threads and then play with it! My pfaff has a specific half way down position for the presser foot - depends on the sort of machine you have. Good luck and keep trying it gets better and better! Best, Lisa
Try entering "Free Motion Quilting" in your search engine and see what pops up. A video on YouTube might be available. I like to see videos as well as reading about things like this. Lisa's directions above are correct. Be sure to clean the sewing "bed" so the quilt will slide easily--but DON'T use anything like Pledge. I just use a damp cloth. And be sure to lower the feed dogs--makes the quilt slide better. And practice, Practice, PRACTICE! It might help to draw quilting designs with paper and pencil before stitching so you get the design in your brain first. Good luck. Go fast. Have fun.
