Need help with edges

I'm working on finishing up this tumbler quilt in the next day or so, but how can I do the edges so I keep the in and out look? I don't really want to use a binding if I can avoid it, but I do have extra on the back that I can always wrap around too.

I have completed the large block/4 patch and my in-laws' quilt already. Now I just have the tumbler, and my scrappy brick to do the outside and they will also be done. I have a baby flannel top done, and depending on time, that might also get completed (or with all these other projects finally done I can start a new one).

Anyone have suggestions for what to do with 9 inch Christmas blocks? I have called it quits on the pot holder, but now I have a bunch of blocks to use. Table runners? Small quilt? Fabric swap??

A little help

Does anyone know the name of this style of block? I did this as one of the first quilts I made, and now I want to make the blocks for pot holder, but don't know what size to cut my blocks (and haven't taken the time to really figure it out either). I am also thinking I will just make a bunch when I make the pot holders, and use the extras plus some for a quilt. I'd like to see it as a scrap quilt.

I've been working

I went to the fabric store yet again, and found pieces to make this table runner. It's shorter than I wanted, and I will still be quilting it with my machine soon. I have one more quilt top to make before I put my walking foot on, still not sure how to do that.

The other pictures are of the in-laws' quilt for Christmas. I like it, and the MIL better too!

Quilt show pictures

I went to a quilt show with my mom yesterday. Here are some of my favorites. The first was part of a quilt that had several sayings, but liked this one the most. The one with the cabin was really cool, I think it was made at a nursing home with over 60,000 pieces. Very cool.

I did get a walking foot for my birthday, but have to figure out how to get it on my machine now.

Friday Fabric

Here is my FFF pick of the week. I got this fat quarter at the quilt shop when we were on our little vacation. I'm thinking part of a table runner.

I am also thinking about the UFO challenge. I have at least 3 quilts that I lost interest in and put away. And for sure 2 that just need to get finished. We'll see what kind of ambition I get...

Tumbler finished

Tyler will be 2 months tomorrow! I also have to go back to work then :( I really don't want to, it's not a place I really want to work at anymore. But I guess I don't have much of a choice right now.

Then there is my Friday pick. It was one in the tumbler top, but a neat piece.

And finally, the tumbler top. I would love to make this pattern again, now that I worked out a few bugs in my practiced one. Can any one see my flaw-2 next to each other? My hubby asked who it's for, no one. Which is my new problem- I don't really have a reason to make more quilts, other than to keep me sane.

I also have a question-- I am thinking this would be a neat on to machine quilt. Stitch in the ditch, I think it's called. Can I do that without a walking foot? Any tips?

Baby quilt

Here is the baby quilt I put together for my co-worker. I like to make a four patch using flannel for the front and back, then not use a batting. They are nice and warm and still light for carrying around. I just love the little turtles! Now I can get back to my tumblers. I also got the back piece sewn for the scrappy brick top. When I get a chance, I will have to put it on the frame to tie it. I'm not sure where all I should tie, I might do one full row, then skip one and do the next. ??? Any suggestions?

A great getaway

My husband and I went up North yesterday. My parents were able to watch the kid
s. We went to a mini golf course in the afternoon, stopped at some old time shops, one of them being a candy store. The owner told me I had to be the happiest person in the store, and I probably was- very much the kid in the candy store feeling. After that, we drove through Hackensack, and I spotted a quilt shop. I am very glad I made Brian turn around. There were some ladies talking about a quilt show, and I asked them where it was. Turns out the casino we were planning on staying at was hosting a quilt show as well! We got there too late yesterday to go, but I did get to take a quick walk through this morning.

Cutting tumblers

I got a few things done today. I had a quilt on the frame that I was tying, and got that completed. Then I cut all my strips for my tumblers. Once I made my template, I cut one to see what it would look like. I think they will be fast to get cut. Tomorrow the boys will be at daycare part of the day, so hopefully I will get more work done.

More fabric

I picked up these pieces today. My next project will be a tumbler quilt, and will be using these and a few prints from my stash. I had been hoping to not buy any more for as long as I could, but there was a sale I didn't want to miss.

Scrappy Bricks

Today I got a chance to start sewing my bricks together for my scrappy brick top. The boys were good long enough that I made some serious progress. I did change my mind on the layout, so it will be a little smaller than first planned. The pattern I found and was sort of following said to have a row of all rectangles, then a row with a square on each end to off set the bricks. I have decided to have a square on one end of each row. This way I won't have to keep track of Row A and Row B.
