A co-worker told me to use a darning foot to do a meander on my regular sewing machine. Anyone do this before? I want to get a little more info before I try to buy one.
Yes, that's what you use, but didn't a small, open presser foot come with your machine? They often have a small, round opening. I hope you start out on your free motion adventure. It's really scary, but if you just dive in and do it, it turns out ok, even if you think it stinks when you're in the process. Let us know how you do.
Rhoda's right. To do FMQ you use a darning foot and you lower the feed dogs. That way you can slide the fabric around under the needle to create your design. You might want to join the FMQ quilt-along that just started here: afewscraps.blogspot.com Christine has posted several preparatory entires but we haven't started quilting anything yet. You can easily catch up.
It takes practice, but it is fun to do. I have been practicing and like Barb joined the FMQ quilt-along to motivate me to keep at it. Hope you will try it. Bernie
Oooh no but i'm anxious to hear what you find out. I need to research this! hugs. Tammy
